There is nothing so gratifying as to witness your babies finding their way. Here is my lil' engineer.
This rascal spent the day engineering a wooden plow. He tried a few times to get it to work. He tried one way, and it didn't work, so back to the drawing board he went. He tried another way and another and FINALLY...It worked! He worked at this until he found every flaw and success was certain.
To Joshua, and many home schooled students like him, failure is NOT an option. If it doesn't work the first time, then figure out why, and make it happen. Learning is a pathway to success, and mistakes are part of the journey.
To this guy, anything he sets out to learn, he is determined to succeed. When a child is free to learn, free from emotional upsets and distractions; when the environment of their lives is structured such that their interests are actually a priority, the foundation for success is built strong. The child can accomplish anything they set their mind too.
I chose to homeschool all ten of my children before my first child was even born. In public school, my questions went unanswered, and my interests were dampened by the distractions and demands of the public school agenda. That said, there were many good things about my education in the public school and many teachers to whom I owe a great debt of gratitude.
However, overall, my needs were not met. For that reason alone, I decided that I would educate my children at home. We use the public school opportunities as well and integrate them into our learning plan as needed. However, being home, my children are free to search out and chase down anything and everything that interests them without the pressure of having to set the topic aside to "run with the mob."
My children have various interests and I am so proud of them. All of them! They are each able to achieve with the confidence of knowing HOW to succeed. They have a life-long love of learning and know how and where to find any answers they may need along the way.
Whether they are taking trophies in basketball, or managing their own businesses (which 5 of my ten are doing)...
or raising their young families...
...the foundation has been laid and it is an honor to witness them build their own lives upon it. Home Schooling can be best defined as "Equipping men and women to become lifelong learners." My children LOVE to learn and they LOVE to help others find the answers.
Eagles build their nests high in the trees. They nurture and care for their young 'eaglets.' When it is time, they teach them to fly. I am so honored and amazed as I watch my babies fly and as they do so with hospitality and grace. They freely give to others of themselves, their knowledge and their time. Wow! Home schooling has served each one well. Imagine how our society could thrive if every child was given the full attention and support they deserve?
Home Education is not for everyone. But that said, building an awesome learning environment for each child, IS our duty and everyone's responsibility. Let's invest in our youth. They are the next generation on this earth. Let us take an inventory of our focus and give the best we have to give to the most precious among us...
Our dear children...
