These people are killers!
Up until last June, I suffered terribly from a lifetime of stress, over training, and sleep deprivation. Upon measuring my sleep, I learned I was only sleeping one whole hour per night.
Does this ring true for you?
All of us have our youth standing in the shadow behind us, and I am sure we can all tell some stories. The sum of it all on our bodies? STRESS and its aftermath on our health.
After losing well over 100 pounds, my belly started to return, EVEN with all of that exercise. I had reached a plateau. How could I have possibly worked out more or eaten less? Seeking out a doctor's help and advice, it was discovered that at the heart of my plateau was sleep deprivation to a severe degree. He advised me to stop all exercise, concentrate on sleep, and detox from stress.
During the day the harder it was to lose the last 60 pounds, the harder I worked out, the less I slept. Yet, I had no idea how bad it was, until this doctor looked into my situation. So, one year ago, I stopped everything but walking on occasion, to bring my system to zero. It was very difficult to do nothing and to focus on sleep. It took 8 full months to get my body into a pattern of sleep. Now I sleep sound all night long up to 7 and 8 hours per night and my system is calming down.
Ready? Set? Crossfit!
Time to add the exercise back in. Nothing works more effectively than shocking the body. So, I decided on Crossfit. The one fitness I vowed I would never try. However, the trainer at our gym is responsible and sensible so I gave it a go.
WOW! Am I out of shape, that happened fast! A great deal of strength disappeared in that short amount of time.
Last night, they gave us all an ABMAT. You place it behind your rump and roll back on it, and sit back up, 40 repetitions.
WELL! I have never used one of those before. Are you familiar with a level used in carpentry? You know the bubble that goes back and forth in that tube? Let me tell you, every time I rolled back, a "bubble" escaped from my mouth and every time I rolled back up, you guessed it! Right out the tail pipe it went, methane gas. Ha ha ha. Had anyone struck a match, there would have been a flash fire right there in that gym. My daughter who was working out right next to me, laughed herself to tears.
Nonetheless, it was a lot of fun and those grizzly people might be killers in the gym, but they are awesome and encouraging. I will keep you updated on my progress. Meanwhile, if you are not comfortable going to a gym or do not have one near you, I have included some links where you can get some of the tools and equipment you can use right in your living room.
