Some Things A Man Won't Share

Oh my how I love my children!

So, I am teaching science to my son Jadon. He is a thinker this one and very thoughtful about every topic we discuss. Being the youngest of ten children, sometimes, he is so quiet one would not think he is listening, but low and behold, he will sum up all that is said in the room and hit the target dead center with words of wisdom laced with humor that captures everyone's attention erupting us all in laughter.

First, let me tell you that Jadon is so generous that one year, when we were really short on money, he wrapped his only Christmas present and gave it to his niece Tiffany. That is how generous this lil guy is. However, there are some things that he has learned you just don't give them up...

Well, we are studying metric measurements and volume. I decided to use the illustration of the candy bar to help him internalize just how small a piece which measures 0.01 really is. I told him a story about him having a nice big chocolate bar all to himself to eat. I described him sitting down to enjoy this chocolate in peace and quiet, when suddenly someone walks in and wants a piece. Then another person, and another until finally, there are 100 people standing before him all wanting a piece of his chocolate bar.

Cool as a cucumber Jadon said, "Well, I would have put my chocolate bar away as soon as the first person walked through the door, 'cause I won't share my chocolate bar. Some things a man just has to keep to himself." Oh my gosh! As he read this, he further added, "Well mom, as you were describing people seizing my candy bar, it brought to mind that poor kid in the bible with all the people who landed on his lunch of five loaves and two measely fish..." Such a privilege to teach my children... Treasures beyond measure.
